Two Arrests Following Heathrow ‘Pepper Spray’ Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the partial closure of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 car park.

An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport where 21 people were injured by what is thought to be pepper spray, according to police.

A man, 24, was arrested in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a woman, 23 was arrested for suspected conspiring to commit a robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

These detentions follow a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 on Sunday. Before the incident, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A three-year-old girl was among the injured during the incident. Five people went to hospital for treatment and have since been released.

Officers arrested a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault near the location. He was subsequently released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Police were alerted at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT following reports of several people hurt by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.

The attack - which police said was a standalone incident and not being treated as terrorism - resulted in delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the T3 parking facility for a short time.
