The number of lives lost resulting from the transport jet which burst into flames and plummeted has now risen to 13, as confirmed by recent announcements.
Mayor's Announcement
Traveling to the Union’s memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the plane crash,” stated the city mayor in a social media post. “My heart are with the families, associates and colleagues of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will endure this collectively.”
Deceased Identified
A release from the company identified the officers aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.
“Our hearts go out to each staff member who has been touched and all in our community region – helping you and guaranteeing you receive the attention and assistance you need is our focus,” the company’s communication read.
Probe Updates
National authorities revealed that the freight aircraft’s port side wing ignited and an engine fell off soon after departure from the aviation hub, leading to the jet to fall and burst into a blaze.
The safety agency stated it is examining the aircraft’s service record, which was in Texas for maintenance weeks prior to the incident.
Aircraft records revealed the aircraft was on the runway in San Antonio, Texas from 3 September to last week.
“We are cognizant that this aircraft was present in the facility,” said an NTSB member on the following day, without providing a specific date range. “We will examine each aspect of maintenance that was completed, from the repair period, straight to the time of the flight.”
Findings of Vital Items
The cockpit voice recorder and information unit were recovered, and the motor was located on the airfield.
The devices – called data containers – were designed to withstand collision damage and intense temperatures from blazes, and they looked to be in one piece when located among the crash debris. Authorities plan on reviewing data from the recorders.
The plane’s final data recordings showed an elevation of that level and a velocity of 210 miles per hour before the crash.
Maintenance History
Based on FAA records dated last month, a crack on a structural piece within the fuel container needed maintenance.
Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers structural repairs for UPS’s MD-11 and operates a service location in San Antonio, chose not to speak, but said it would cooperate fully when officials approached it.
Services Restart
Meanwhile, the facility services restarted Wednesday night with its express also known as nighttime process, representative Jim Mayer said. All three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also reopened.
The UPS package handling facility in the city is the company’s biggest. The hub employs over 20,000 individuals in the area, manages three hundred flights daily and processes more than four hundred thousand packages each hour.
Public Support
A gathering was conducted on the late afternoon of 6 November by the area Teamsters Union, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the organization’s largest freight center.
The union chapter, which stands for UPS workers, started the vigil with a quiet tribute at that time, the rough moment of the crash before.
“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the official addressed the assembly of attendees. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to any one of those who we have mourned.”
