Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then discovered many other smeared vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were trying "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in five years prior.
